Commercial obligations

Payment and supply bonds

Selective support for payment, delivery and supply-chain obligations arising from clearly documented commercial contracts.

Submit this type of risk

Payment and supply bonds address different but related commercial risks. A payment bond can support an applicant's obligation to pay defined subcontractors or suppliers. A supply bond can support delivery of specified goods, materials or equipment in accordance with a contract.

These structures require careful analysis because they can move towards pure credit risk if the underlying obligation is broad or unconditional. Titanium looks for a defined transaction, measurable performance, appropriate controls and wording that matches the commercial purpose.

Typical uses

Where it can apply.

  • Project subcontractor payment
  • Critical material and equipment supply
  • Manufacturing and delivery contracts
  • Selected trading or commercial obligations

Underwriting focus

What drives the decision.

  • Underlying transaction and evidence of value exchange
  • Applicant cash conversion, supplier dependencies and credit profile
  • Delivery milestones, title, acceptance and remedy rights
  • Whether the wording creates financial-guarantee characteristics

Important considerations

Structure remains case specific.

  • Pure debt guarantees may fall outside appetite or require a different structure.
  • Concentration in one supplier or route is assessed.
  • Cross-border delivery can introduce customs, currency and sanctions risk.

Common questions

Clear answers before submission.

Are all supplier payment obligations suitable for surety?

No. The obligation should arise from a clear commercial transaction and remain within approved product and regulatory scope. General working-capital or debt support is considered separately.

Can a bond cover international delivery?

Potentially, subject to the jurisdictions, trade route, contract terms, currency, sanctions screening and locally compliant issuance arrangements.
